Temperance in the LORD - promises |
Katie Stewart |
12-27-98 |
1 Cor. 9:25,27 "And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible... But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." |

That Men May Know He Is God -study |
Katie Stewart |
6-30-02 |
"Why has this article been written? 'That men may know that Thou, Whose Name alone is JEHOVAH, art the Most High over all the Earth' (Psalm 83:18). This is an evidence of His Truth. '10 Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me... 12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have showed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God' (Isaiah 43:10,12)... To know the LORD, and to be able to tell others of Him, is our joy and pleasure. 'Behold, God is my Salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my Strength and my Song; He also is become my Salvation' (Isaiah 12:2). Nothing means more to us-- now or ever after. 'I count ALL things but loss for the excellency of the Knowledge of Christ Jesus my LORD: for Whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ' (Philippians 3:8). This world, with all of its enticements, has no power, at all, over us. 'I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the Faith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me' (Galatians 2:20). We know the LORD, and we know Him as our Victory! 'Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is Everlasting Strength' (Isaiah 26:4)." |

That Ye May
Know That Ye Have Eternal Life |
Tom Stewart |
7-11-99 |
"These things have I written unto you that believe
on the Name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have Eternal Life, and that
ye may believe on the Name of the Son of God" (1John 5:13). Perhaps the plainest statement of Scripture that any may use to determine their possession of Eternal Life, is the Apostle John's letter to his Little Children. "3 And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His Commandments. 4 He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His Commandments, is a liar, and the Truth is not in him" (1John 2:3-4). Present obedience means you truly possess Eternal Life, while present disobedience means you are a liar. "And all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the Second Death" (Revelation 21:8). |

The tender story of two boys striving to be "like
HIM." "We shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is." (1 John 3:2) My fondest memories are of my childhood. The adventures that I had with a boy named, Mark, will always stand out in my mind as the best time of my life. I often wander back to that time. Back to the time when innocence came so easily. |

The Amazing Humanity
of Jesus Christ |
Tom Stewart |
4-27-2000 |
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among
us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father,) full
of Grace and Truth" (John 1:14). The Old Testament of the Scriptures is replete with clues of God's purpose to redeem and govern mankind through the human advent of the Divine Son of God. "6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will perform this" (Isaiah 9:6-7). What astounds us is that the Son of God condescended to become a man-- to suffer all the difficulties of the flesh and the human condition, "yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). Heaven will surely be filled with the Saints' praise and admiration for so bold an act of love that the Son of Man would become human flesh and then "lay down His life for His friends" (John 15:13). "Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you" (15:14). |

The Beauty of
Holiness |
Katie Stewart |
7-14-2000 |
"O worship the LORD in the Beauty of Holiness"
(Psalm 96:9). "What Beauty is found in Holiness? The LORD. 'Let the Beauty of the LORD our God be upon us' (Psalm 90:17). And what Beauty 'upon us' does He work? 'Establish Thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish Thou it' (90:17). The beautiful 'work' of Holy living God will 'establish... upon us'... And Love? Well, Love is the 'greatest' (1Corinthians 13:13) of all spiritual assets, and without Love, we are 'nothing' (13:2). Love is the motive for Holy living. On Love, the whole Moral Law of God is suspended. '37 Jesus said... Thou shalt LOVE the LORD thy God with ALL thy heart, and with ALL thy soul, and with ALL thy mind. 38 This is the first and Great Commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two Commandments hang ALL the Law and the prophets' (Matthew 22:37-40)... Of what value is law, if it is not esteemed and obeyed? God obeys His Law, and He expects the same of us... Holiness is the state we're in when we love God with our joyful obedience. 'For this is the LOVE of God, that we KEEP His Commandments: and His Commandments are not grievous' (1John 5:3). Holiness is beautiful because it is the fruit of Love." |

The Beggar and the Coin - story |
Joel H. Eastman |
|
At the end of one cold November day, the sun was setting on the horizon and the beggar got up to go home (if you could call two wooden crates a home). While crossing the bridge, he saw a gentleman staring at the sunset with his arms resting on the stone rail of the bridge. As he walked, he felt his coat pocket. A half sovereign was all he had gotten that day. His thoughts flew forward to tomorrow. He knew of a job at a local shop where he had seen, just the day before, a sign in the window, and though he could read very little, it said: . Ah, but there lay the difficulty, as he only had the tattered clothes on his back and they could hardly be called decent. New clothes would cost him 20 sovereigns, at least, and all he had in his pocket was a half of a sovereign, plus the 9 1/2 he had managed to save. What hope had he to get another 10 sovereigns by tomorrow, when it had taken him over a year to save the ten? But what choice had he? He would never get out of the slums if he did not get a job, but how was he to get a job without 10 sovereigns, which he could not get without a job. This vicious cycle left him dizzy. |

The Beginnings
of Sorrows |
Tom and Katie Stewart |
1-9-99 |
"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall
be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows" (Mark 13:8). We, the Watching and Waiting Body of Christ, have been providentially enabled by the Spirit to sense the nearness of our Deliverance, because of the quickening frequency of the birth pains. "Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in Thy sight, O LORD" (Isaiah 26:17). It is completely appropriate that we would use the sense of our own personal circumstances, as well as the current events of the world, to tell how close together the birth pains are. "I being in the way, the LORD led me" (Genesis 24:27). And, we are in no danger of an inappropriate focus on watching for our LORD, so long as we "occupy" (Luke 19:13). "Blessed are those servants, whom the LORD when He cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that He shall gird Himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them" (12:37). First Advent: Israel Brought Forth the Messiah. Second Advent: The Church Brings Forth the King of Kings. Our LORD Jesus Christ described the signs that indicate that our Pre-Tribulational Rapture Deliverance and-- most importantly-- His Second Coming are near. |

When the righteous plead with the LORD, "Order my steps in Thy Word" (Psalm 119:133), they become stewards of the "Sound Wisdom" the LORD has treasured-up for them. His Word becomes their Staple in life. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4)... "Yea doubtless, and I count ALL THINGS but loss for the Excellency of the Knowledge of Christ Jesus my LORD: for Whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ." (Philippians 3:8). | |

The Burning Fiery Furnace -story with illustrations |
King James Version |
5-31-2000 |
The Biblical account of the three Hebrew youths that would not worship Nebuchadnezzar's idol of gold, is not merely a story of courage, but it is a record of fidelity to the Faithful God, Who is able to deliver from the hand of man. "Our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king" (Daniel 3:17). Daniel's record also demonstrates God as Faithful, not only to those who faithfully trust Him, but also to the yet unsaved elect who don't. His plan, as the Revealer of Secrets, worked faithfully for the good of both groups of people. "Being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His Own will" (Ephesians 1:11). He is with us in the "heat" of the battle of faith, and He works "behind our backs" when faith is yet to be born. |

The Coming Prince -study |
Sir Robert Anderson |
(1895) |
Complete with charts, tables, and reference footnotes. Undoubtedly, Sir Robert Anderson intended the title of his book, "The Coming Prince", to refer to the Antichrist, who is noted as the "prince that shall come" (Daniel 9:26). In Chapter 15, also entitled "The Coming Prince", Anderson wrote:
On the other hand, his "Introduction" (Chapter 1) begins with a defense of the prophetic fact that the LORD Jesus Christ will most certainly return to judge the world. Anderson wrote:
"The Coming Prince" is a classic interpretation of the prophecies of Daniel, especially the ninth chapter. Concerning Daniel's Seventy Weeks, Anderson wrote:

The Communicable Secrets
of Mr. Finney's Power |
Arthur T. Pierson |
(1837-1911) |
"He preached the whole Gospel. The Law, with
its stern demand and perfect standard, he used as a plough to sweep away refuges
of lies and tear up false hopes by the roots; then he followed it with the love of
God, as the sower gently drops into the furrow the seed steeped in his tears. The
sword of the Spirit is two-edged. Warning, or invitation, alone, like a scimetar,
may strike effective blows in one direction; but when the two keen edges meet in
the point, they prepare us for the thrust that pierces to the joints and marrow.
Thus Mr. Finney begat deep conviction of sin. As Socrates sought to lead men "from
ignorance unconscious to ignorance conscious," he aimed to produce that consciousness
of guilt and peril without which there can be no deep sense of need or of obligation. How spiritual, too, was the tone of his preaching! With what ardor and fervor he besought men to be justified and sanctified by faith. With what burning, glowing zeal, did he assail the sectarianism which cares for sect more than for Christ; the conventionalism whose "awful respectability" hampers ministers and churches by a false fastidiousness, and dares not break through the bonds of custom, and adopt a new measure, even to save a soul! With what scathing rebuke he exposes the idle neglect that leaves generations to die without the Gospel, though for each disciple to win one soul each year to Christ, would be to convert the world within the lifetime of a single generation! His preaching was spiritual in power as well as tone. He depended on the Spirit, whose blessed unction alone fits us to plead with men, or even to understand the Gospel. With the agony of Jacob at Jabbok, he sought the power to witness. "Honor the Holy Spirit and He will honor you," was his maxim; and he taught that without the habitual recognition of dependence on the Spirit, revivals neither begin nor continue. If any one secret of Mr. Finney's power be emphatic, it is this: he gave his whole soul to God." --A. T. Pierson |

The Conflicts of Armageddon -study |
Tom Stewart |
6-2-2001 |
"And He gathered them together into a place called
in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon" (Revelation 16:16). "Armageddon, presently only a rich archaeological excavation and tourist site, lies about 18 miles (29 kilometers) southeast of the coastal city of Haifa, in northern Israel. Because Megiddo occupied a strategic military position on the Plain of Esdraelon-- which is the Greek derivation of the Hebrew, Yizre'el meaning God will sow, and is also identified with the Valley of Jezreel of Scripture-- it was the scene of numerous historic, Biblical battles and many conflicts more recent... The Battle of Armageddon, in the world's vocabulary, evokes images of a doomsday destruction of the world, and a sense of overwhelming fearfulness. This is as it should be. For though the Saviour has tirelessly invited humanity to find forgiveness for sins 'through faith in His Name' (Acts 3:16) and, consequently, 'peace with God' (Romans 5:1), there must come a time when His gracious offer would be withdrawn. 'And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this The Judgment' (Hebrews 9:27). To allow man's probation to go on forever would only harden man's resolve that his sin would never find him out. But, 'be sure your sin will find you out' (Numbers 32:23)! The cavalier attitude of many toward Christ and sin, is, 'I may repent tomorrow.' However, tomorrow may never come. 'Ye know not what shall be on the morrow' (James 4:14). 'Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of Salvation' (2Corinthians 6:2). 'To day if ye will hear His Voice, harden not your hearts' (Hebrews 4:7)... Armageddon truly cometh." 58 |
